BEARING MAINTENANCE

TO GET THE BEST PERFORMANCE FROM YOUR BEARINGS
YOU NEED TO TAKE A FEW ACTIONS TO KEEP ROLLING SMOOTH AND FAST

Skate bearings can collect dirt, debris, moisture, dust, hair and all contaminants from the ground you are rolling on. There is no way to avoid this – it is perfectly natural to pick up skate crud as you roll. HOWEVER we recommend cleaning your bearings regularly to keep you rolling smooth and fast and keep your bearings in the best condition as possible.

This guidance sets out how to look after Brites Bearings, as follows

• Remove your bearings from each wheel.
• Remove the bearing shield (see photos below).
• Put all bearings in a Bearing Cleaner or Jam Jar (or a small container with a lid).
• Pour Bearing Cleaner or non-abrasive degreaser in the container approximately ¼ full.
• Shake VIGOROUSLY for 2 to 3 minutes and watch the dirt and gunk fall from your bearings.
• Take the bearings out and place upside down on tissue paper to absorb the bearing cleaner.
• If the bearings are still dirty, repeat step 3-6 until dirt/debris is removed from your bearings.
• Leave the bearings to dry and wipe with a soft tissue to remove excess liquid or use a hairdryer.
• Apply 1 or 2 drops of Brites Bearing Lube to each bearing (don’t add more than 2 drops).
• Replace bearing shields and reinstall to your skate wheel – don’t forget your spacers!

Without ongoing bearing maintenance, your bearings will ride rough and not be an enjoyable experience. Your bearings may also break if dirt becomes lodged between the ball bearing and the inner race – we don’t want you hurting yourself, so CLEAN YOUR BEARINGS !!!

We don’t recommend using WD-40 or any water-based lubricant product – these can prematurely rust the inside of the bearing and then it’s time for a replacement set of bearings. We do recommend bearing lubricants designed to keep you rolling e.g. Brites Bearing Lube.
